The handset part of the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor-toting Android family is expanding, this newest member making the total five with a whole slew of tablets already out there in the wilderness as well. We’ve gotten to review each and every one of these devices: Motorola ATRIX 4G, Motorola DROID X2, Motorola PHOTON 4G, T-Mobile G2X by LG, and now the Samsung Galaxy R, each of them rolling out with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 Super Chip, that being a dual-core processor with access to the NVIDIA Tegra Zone, mobile apps which work ONLY with Tegra-enhanced devices. With its 4.19-inch WVGA Super Clear LCD touhscreen, Gingerbread Android operating system, and 5 megapixel camera on the back, this device is shaping up to be the herald of the Galaxy S II, will it stick around for the party?
This device will sit in your hand nice a smooth as its got a rounded-off back and round corners all around and a display up front with as much flatness as you’ve come to expect from the already-released Samsung Infuse 4G. Unlike the Infuse though, this device thus far has no solid plans for coming to the USA at the moment, instead being currently available in Sweden, and coming to other regions soon, including North & Eastern Europe, South East & West Asia, Middle East Asia, and China.
The Samsung Galaxy R’s 5 megapixel camera is capable of recording at 720p, and the device itself is able to play back full HD videos at 1080p (Divx, WMV, MP4, H.264 B/P). Inside you’ll find built-in memory of 8GB and there’s a microSD card slot capable of supporting a 32GB card. The size of the device is 125.7 x 66.7 x 9.55 mm and the weight is up at 131 grams, making this a small, slim device, but not quite so small and slim as the Galaxy S II, the slimmest of phones.Does this look like a device you’ll be picking up? I suppose I can only address everyone in Europe at the moment as we’re still not knowing when this device will be available here in the USA, then of course the Galaxy S II isn’t out here either, so we’re looking at a wait no matter what!
